3D Printed iPad Drawing Stand with Smart Connector Wireless Charging
I am assuming most of you are here because of the YouTube Video
I made another version of my previous iPad Stand but this one includes a Smart Connector for wireless charging.
Due to the Smart Connector being an important part of this, I cannot make other iPad sizes without knowing the exact dimensions of the other Smart Connectors.
If you are not comfortable disassembling the Smart Connector stand, I would not recommend attempting this project.
List of things you will need:
Smart Connector: https://amzn.to/4hD1StR
I used the Smart Connector from above but these other 2 appear to be the same models you may consider using if you want to save some money.
Alternative Options: https://amzn.to/4hI8BCV, https://amzn.to/42Dtg6B
Krazy Glue: https://amzn.to/3CRAPeZ
Rubber Pads: https://amzn.to/4fZ6Tfo
Ball Stoppers: https://amzn.to/3ZiK3d4
T10 Screwdriver: https://amzn.to/3Vd37aQ
Screws: https://amzn.to/4dGI8mv (10mm)
Optional Right Angle USB Adapter: https://amzn.to/40W1FMF
3D Printer: https://amzn.to/4h3jlvO
Filament: https://amzn.to/40XHTR2
Please use the exact items listed so that everything fits to the exact dimensions of the 3D models.
Using the links gives me a 2-4% commission. Using the links is an easy way to support things like this at no additional cost to you since you needed the supplies for the model anyways. I would like to be able to do more things like this but it does take time to make these type of things and if it is unsustainable then I would simply have to stop. I am really grateful to receive support in any way possible whether you decide to use the links or just by simply watching the videos.
Tips
I only needed to use supports for a small portion of the legs but your needs may vary depending on your printer and print settings.
Some areas like the bolts for the stand are fitted 1/1, if your printer tolerances are not that good, I will try to update them for different tolerances.
I am using a 0.4mm nozzle to print, 0.2mm layer height. I would not recommend using larger nozzles unless you are utmost confident of your printer's tolerances.
I highly recommend using Krazy Glue, not just any random glue you have around the house. It dries relatively quick and bonds things together extremely well.
Instructions:
I uploaded a instructions video if that helps assembling this a little easier https://youtu.be/xPKHOEz55pg
You will skip the MagSafe step portion
Most of this can be seen in this video: https://youtu.be/R0nBDizW7I8
Use a blow dryer to warm up the adhesive and delaminate this sheet [00:53]
Peel the sheet back until you can remove the screws [01:29]
You will need to place the magnets back in. It should look like this as they are facing in alternated directions. Reference your iPad directly to make sure everything is correct. [02:15]
You can either glue the Smart Connector directly to the stand or what I did was tape both the surface of the stand and Smart Connector and glue those sections together. [5:08]
That way if you choose, you can still choose to take the two apart but the bond is still strong enough to support the iPad from falling out and stuff.
If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment on the video.
I greatly appreciate your support and doing so allows me to continue having fun and making these types of obscure things.
Have Fun! :)
